When I took a mandatory typing class my Sophomore year at Azusa High school, it was on an old IBM Selectric. During one lesson, the teacher told the class that when we type a letter for our boss he would draw red lines, circles, and arrows on it then we would have to retype it. I remember thinking no way am I ever going to be a secretary! Never say never. A few years later I was introduced to a Brother Word Processor then I took my first office job in 1988. It was for an electrical contractor and supply house, I worked on a networked Zenith with DOS, and I’ve been doing office work of one kind or another since then.
It is early 30 years later and I’ve picked up a few things along the way, I worked my way around some office Headaches, and I found ways to live up to seemingly impossible expectations (not always in ways expected). I hope you enjoy my random stories in my “Morning Coffee” Series.
This trick works on MS Word and most other programs.
Have you ever tried to size a picture or logo to fit your document and get a distorted mess? There is a simple solution built into most programs, to resize the graphic, photo, logo, etc, click on the little bugger, hold your mouse pointer over a corner dot until double arrow appears, hold down the shift key, click and hold the right mouse button, a crossbar will appear in most programs, drag mouse to make the graphic smaller or larger without distorting it. Voila!
After working with small business subcontractors I recognized a need for a person to work a few hours a week in their small office to help with billing, filing, balancing checkbooks, etc., a Girl Friday. So several years ago, when the housing market crashed and construction started slowing down, I reserved this URL as a “back up plan”.
My other side job is web design, I enjoy the art of it and published this site to go with my URL. I’m still busy with construction, however, having my name out there in cyber space is a good plan to get it established.
I’m very active with my web designs, go to TetonTrekker Web Designs to see more of my designs.
Girl Friday ~n Origin: 1940 – A ‘go to’ girl; a female who will help you get things taken care of; a female you can rely on when you are in need of extra assistance; a female who acts as a ‘jack of all trades’ and is capable of doing almost anything; a girl you can count on when you are overwhelmed with your own chores and the duties must be done; a girl who does most of the leg work on a project, but never takes credit.
